Habib & Liza Concert Saturday, July 16, 2011: Habib, the most notable remix singer in Bangladesh and Liza, Close Up One 2008, performed a musical concert in Cullen Performance Hall at the University of Houston during the graduation ceremony. The program started with the graduation ceremony of high school students and then continued with the music by Liza for about an hour. After a dinner break, Habib Wahid and his father Ferdous Wahid performed for about two hours. More than 500 people attended the event, on of the best show hosted by BASGH. Bijoy Dibosh-2011 Bijoy Dibosh was celebreated with much enthusiasm on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Sur Auditorium. The program started with the Annual meeting of the Society, followed by recognition of freedom fighters, outgoing Board Members, past BASGH Presidents, and newly-elected Board Members. There is an amazing fashion show of children after that followed by patriotic songs. Then two invited artists from Bangladesh, Mira Sinha and Shah Mahmub dominated the stage for two hours. Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti-2011 Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti was held on Friday, June 24, 2011. It was a melodious eveneing full of Tagore and Nazrul songs and poetries sung and recited by many our younger singers. More than 200 people attended the event. Pitha Mela-2011 Pitha Mela was held on Sunday, November 20, 2011 through a colorful gathering. It was a day to welcome winter and to enjoy a variety of traditional Bangladeshi Pithas. Fall Picnic-2011 Fall picnic was held in Bush Park on Sunday, October 23, 2011. About 400 people enjoyed the day full of events for children. The food menu was bhoona khichuri, bhuna beef , bhuna egg and etc. Eid Reunion-2011 Eid Reunion was celebrated withgreat enthusiasm on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Maharaja Hall. About 300 people attended the event that included a dinner and a musical performance by a young Bangladeshi singer Rumi. Enjoying Spring Picnic in beautiful McClendon Park, Sunday, May 1, 2011 PSAT & SAT Preparatory Courses BASGH offered PSAT & SAT headstrat and preparatory courses for middle- and high school students during June 19-26 and July 10-17, 2011. It was a very important service for the children in our community. Baisakhi Mela - 2011 Baisakhi Mela was observed on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at BASGH Bahbon. It was a colorful event encompassing indoor and outdoor activities of music, songs, poems, games, cooking and several boutiques stalls. More than 350 peopel attended the event and all foods were sold out.View Slide Show Spring Picnic-2011 Spring picnic was held at newly built & beautiful McClendon Park with arches and gates. More than 450 people enjoyed the beautiful sunny day full of events, shopping sharees and enjoying on-the-spot cooked food. Independence Day-2011 Independence Day 2011 is observed on March 26, 2011 that included a cultural program involving many community artists. It was the best cultural program ever and the first in BASGH Bhabon. More than 250 people attended the event that inclded video projection outside the house as well as gathering in tree-laden lawn in a shoothing cool weather. Pictures below. BASGH is Offering a Bangla School, a Music School and a Medical Clinic: BASGH is offering a Bangla, Arabic, and Music School for children, as well as a medical clinic for all. Iftari-2011 Iftari was held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 @ Maharaja Hal. About 400 people attended the event that started with a discussion on the values of Ramadan followed by iftari and dinner. Tagore's 150th Birthday-2011 BASGH artists participated in a wonderful ceremony dedicated to Kabiguru Rabindranath Thakur's 150th birthday at India House on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Our artists played our national anthem written by Tagore as well as two other melodious Tagor songs in colorful dresses liked by all. View Slide Show and songs Mobile Consular Services-2011 Bangladesh Embassy provided mobile consular services at BASGH Bhabon on Saturday, May 7, 2011. About 100 people took the opportunity to renew their passports, receive no visa required and so on. We want to thank the consular officers for their tireless and friendly work for our community. International Mother Language Day: 2011 BASGH celebrated IMLD along with Bangladesh Association, Houston. Many other local organizations of southeast Asian countries also participated in the event. The day started with a Ekushey procession, followed by a breakfast that included on the spot cooking luchi, bhaji and haluwa. About 1000 people attended the event full of cultural program including patriotic songs, dances, and poems as well as a bazaar selling sarees, food, and etc.View Album Celebrating International Mother Language Day-2011 Bijoy Dibosh 2010 Bijoy Dibosh wascelebrated with much enthusiasm on December 17, 2010 with a large crowd at Maharaja Hall. In addition to patriotic songs by local artists highlighting the theme of Bijoy Dibosh, special attraction was a musical conceet by famous singer Nawrin. President's Message. Fall Picnic 2010: Fall Picnic was held on Sunday, October 31st in Bush park. About 350 people attended the picnic. This year the most attractions were traditional Bangladeshi games such as rope pulling and shortput. Children enjoyed train ride, games, and moonwalk. Prize distribution for indoor games was another attraction. Spring Picnic & Independence Day 2010 Despite sudden chilly weather and moving the event to indoor, more than 300 people attended the evet full of patriotic songs & music along with delicious foods that included bhuna khichuri, chicken tikka, bhuna egg, and beef curry. Everyone was so happy with such a beautifully orchestrated musical event. View Album Graduation Ceremony 2010 Grauation Ceremony for high school graduates was held on Saturday, July 17, 2010 in Maharaja Hall. Twenty-six graduates received plaques from chief guests Dr. Aziz Siddiqi, President of ISGH and Dr. Abdul Hannan Khan, past President of BASGH. The event was very successful and enjoyed by all due to live band- music by well-known CloseUpOne artist, Sabbir. Indoor Games Competition 2010 Indoor games competition was held on Saturday and Sunday, June 12 & 13 respectively at Maharaja open hall. About 30 players of various age-groups participated in the competition of bridge, table tennis, Karom, chess, twenty-nine, and etc. Live World Cup Soccer made the events enjoyable to all. The program started with a discussion on the essense of Ramadan, followed by Iftari, prayer, and dinner. Ambassador's Visit to Houston 2010 Ambassador of Bangladesh to USA, honorable Mr. Aqramul Qader visited Houston on Sunday, May 16, 2010 and meet Bangladeshi community over a dinner at Maharaja Hall. President's Message at the Dinner Mobile Consular Services 2010 Bangladesh Embassy provided Mobile consular services on Saturday, May 15, 2010 in Maharaja Hall. 114 people received passport and visa services in a seemless manner. It was a cheerful day for many BASGH members to volunteer for this community event. BASGH wants to thank the consular officers to provide such a wonderful service. Mobile ConsularVisit 2009 Mobile Consular Services from Bangladesh Embassy visited on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 to support Bangladeshis in Houston with Passport and other consular-related services. About 100 people received the services. Spring Picnic Independence Day Spring Picnic & Independence Day was celebrated on Sunday, March 29, 2009 @ 9:00 AM at George Bush Park. Bijoy Dibosh 2009 Bijoy Dibosh was celebrated on Saturday, December 19 at Maharaja Banquet Hall. The evening started with a tribute to martyrs of independence, followed by a cultural program and showing of an award-winnig movie "Ontorjatra," directed by acclaimed Bangladeshi director Tareq Masud. Winter Pitha Mela 2009 Winter Pita mela was held in Bush Park on November 22, 2009. Several pitha stores presented a variety of Bangladeshi pithas and there were stores for sharee and other clothings as well. Members enjoyed this soothing cold day at the beginning of Winter. Fall Picnic 2009 Fall Picnic was held on Sunday, October 4, 2009. Despite rain and moving from Bush Park to Maharaja Banquet Hall, the turnout was more than 250 people. The day started with a breakfast, followed by a deshi lunch including bhuna khichuri, beef curry, chicken tandori and bhuna egg. Bijoy Diboash 2008: Bijoy Dibosh, Eid Reunion & Annual Meeting was observed on Sudnay, December 21, 2008 at Sugarland Community Center. Graduation 2008: Gradiuation for high school students was celebrated through a youthful spirit in a twilight arena of FunPlex on August 9, 2008. About 23 graduates participated in the event.
